    The inspiration

    Western Australia's Ningaloo coast is a pristine World Heritage listed ocean paradise abundant with extraordinary marine life. Its coral reef is Australia's longest fringing reef uniquely close to shore. Lawson planned to gain his PADI Dive Master certification at Ningaloo to compliment his marine biology studies. This was his first sea sponge painting c.2018, reworked in 2023.
